When It Comes to Kickball, Never Underestimate the Power of the Creative

Last Friday, some of us had the privilege of participating in the 3rd Annual Playworks Greater Newark/Greater New York Corporate Kickball Tournament, a wonderful event that offers local businesses the chance to give back to their community while enjoying a few hours of intensely entertaining kickball.

Over the years, we have helped many clients build CSR campaigns that maximize the impact of their philanthropic efforts. It was fantastic to take part in a CSR activity that supported an organization so near and dear to our hearts: Playworks is a proven and scalable model aimed at increasing physical activity in low-income schools. We had the pleasure of working with this inspiring nonprofit when they were looking to expand nationally and needed a brand that could support their incredible growth.

Fifteen of us ventured to downtown Newark for an afternoon of fun in the sun, bonding with coworkers and kicking around a big blue bouncy ball. What no one could have expected: the agility and athleticism of our team of designers, programmers, strategists and producers. Over the course of two intense kickball games against physically dominating opponents, we racked up the runs, proving that size doesn’t always matter when it comes to stamina, skills or strength.

Most importantly, the event helped raise over $21,000 for the Greater Newark and Greater New York chapters of Playworks, which collectively provide safe, healthy and inclusive play and physical activity for over 7,300 children in Newark and New York schools.

For example, Google was named the best company to work for this year, and…

The Company on the Couch: What Branding Reveals About an Organization

We recently rebranded a $20 billion institutional asset management firm.  The client had been spun off from a much larger parent company and was looking to a new brand to ramp up its close rate with prospects.  Our research with clients and prospects (and several institutions that had chosen not to hire our client) uncovered…

Color Series: Iconic Yellow

Mellow yellow wasn’t always so: several hundred years ago in France, yellow was smeared onto the doors of felons and traitors, heretics in Spain were urged to wear a yellow cross as penance, and Judas is often portrayed in paintings clothed in a yellow garb. Today, the color generally connotes warm golden sunshine and…
