What Happens When Talladega Nights Meets Catcher in the Rye?

This week, PBS will be airing Racing Dreams, the feature documentary film directed by our friend Marshall Curry. Described as “Talladega Nights meets Catcher in the Rye,” Racing Dreams follows three tweens who dream of becoming NASCAR drivers. Too young to hold driver’s licenses, Brandon, Josh and Annabeth race extreme go-karts at speeds of up to 70mph in the World Karting Association’s National Pavement Series – the “Little League” of professional racing.

The film, a humorous and heartbreaking portrait of racing, young love and family struggle, won Best Documentary Feature at New York City’s Tribeca Film Festival.  Our own Executive Producer, Xan Parker, was Supervising Producer on Racing Dreams, and looks back on the project as one of her favorites throughout her career. And Marshall’s new film If a Tree Falls has earned him his second nomination for an Academy Award for Best Documentary. Root for him this weekend when you watch the Oscars!

Tune in to the “P.O.V.” series on your local PBS channel (check local listings) to catch Racing Dreams.
